Position Overview

Our renowned automotive engineering client is seeking a highly experienced Senior Design Engineer to join their advanced manufacturing team in Detroit, Michigan. In this hands‐on role, you will conceptualize, design, and develop innovative automotive components and systems with a focus on performance, durability, and manufacturability. You will translate customer requirements and market trends into detailed engineering designs using advanced CAD software and simulation tools, while collaborating with cross‐functional teams to ensure design integrity and a successful product launch.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and development of automotive components and systems from concept to production.
  • Create detailed 3D CAD models and 2D manufacturing drawings using advanced software (e.g., CATIA, SolidWorks).
  • Perform engineering analysis, including Finite Element Analysis (FEA) for stress, strain, vibration, and thermal performance.
  • Conduct design reviews and implement recommendations to ensure product quality and reliability.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing engineers to optimize designs for production processes.
  • Work with testing and validation teams to verify design performance against requirements.
  • Troubleshoot design issues and implement effective root cause solutions.
  • Interface with suppliers to ensure component specifications are met and manufacturing feasibility.
  • Stay updated on automotive industry trends, new materials, and emerging technologies.
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to a culture of technical excellence.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
  • 8+ years of experience in automotive design engineering.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD software (e.g., CATIA V5, SolidWorks) and FEA tools (e.g., ANSYS, Abaqus).
  • Strong understanding of automotive manufacturing processes (e.g., stamping, injection molding, casting).
  • Knowledge of material science, thermodynamics, and fluid dynamics.
  • Experience with DFMEA (Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis).
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with electric vehicle (EV) components is a plus.
