Position Overview

A renowned architectural and design firm is seeking a creative and experienced Senior Lighting Designer to lead innovative projects in Boston, Massachusetts, US. This hybrid role requires a strong understanding of lighting principles, design software, and project management. You will conceptualize, develop, and oversee sophisticated lighting solutions for commercial, institutional, and residential spaces while collaborating with architects, interior designers, and clients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop creative and technically sound lighting concepts that enhance architectural spaces and user experience.
  • Translate design intent into detailed lighting plans, including fixture selection, placement, and control strategies.
  • Prepare lighting design documentation, including renderings, specifications, and cost estimates.
  • Utilize advanced lighting design software (e.g., DIALux, AGI32, Revit, AutoCAD) for modeling, simulation, and analysis.
  • Collaborate with architectural and interior design teams, as well as electrical engineers and consultants, to ensure seamless integration of lighting systems.
  • Review shop drawings and submittals to ensure compliance with design intent.
  • Conduct site visits and construction administration to oversee the implementation of lighting designs.
  • Stay updated with the latest lighting technologies, products, and industry trends.
  • Mentor junior designers and contribute to the firm's design standards and knowledge base.
  • Present design proposals and project updates to clients and stakeholders.
  • Ensure designs meet relevant codes, standards, and sustainability goals.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Architecture, Interior Design, Lighting Design, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in lighting design with a strong portfolio showcasing diverse projects.
  • Proficiency in industry-standard lighting design software and CAD tools.
  • In-depth knowledge of lighting fixtures, controls, and electrical systems.
  • Understanding of color science, light physics, and visual perception.
  • Excellent design, visualization, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
  • Strong collaboration and client management abilities.
  • Membership in professional organizations such as IES or IALD is a plus.
  • Familiarity with sustainable design practices and certifications (e.g., LEED) is desirable.
