Key Responsibilities
- Patient Care: Administer prescribed medications (oral, topical, injection), perform wound dressings, provide basic patient care and comfort measures, and offer emotional support to patients and families.
- Patient Preparation: Set up exam and procedure rooms, review patients’ medications and records, and ensure patients are informed and prepared for examinations.
- Vital Sign Monitoring: Record patients' temperature, heart rate, respirations, oxygen saturation, and blood pressure, and communicate notable changes to the healthcare team.
- Supporting Therapeutic Measures: Assist physicians and RNs with procedures and perform prescribed treatments such as administering injections.
- Specimen Collection: Collect samples (blood, urine, sputum) for laboratory testing and prepare them for transport.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate records of patient histories, care provided, vital signs, intake/output, and treatment responses.
- Patient Education: Educate patients and their families about health conditions, medications, dietary restrictions, and home care techniques.
- Professional Collaboration: Work closely with physicians, RNs, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement effective care plans.
- Monitoring Equipment: Ensure medical equipment is in proper working condition and report any malfunctions.
- Compliance: Adhere to safety, hygiene, and HIPAA regulations to maintain patient privacy and a safe care environment.
Required Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent with completion of a state-approved vocational nursing program and successful NCLEX-PN exam.
- License & Certification: Valid, unencumbered LVN license with current Basic Life Support (BLS) or CPR certification.
- Experience: While no minimum experience is required, 1+ years as an LVN is preferred for per diem roles.
- Clinical Skills: Ability to accurately take vital signs, administer medications, and perform basic medical procedures safely.
- Attention to Detail: Strong observational skills to detect subtle changes in patient conditions.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective patient and team interactions.
- Compassion & Empathy: A patient-centered approach with sensitivity and respect in care delivery.
