Job Description

Position Overview

Under the direction of the physician(s) and manager, the Medical Assistant Scribe prepares patients to see the surgeon, facilitates lab tests and pre‐operative counseling when needed, and prepares patient records with pertinent health information. This role reports to the Manager. At Engineered Aesthetics Plastic Surgery Institute – serving the greater Las Vegas metropolitan area – our team specializes in Aesthetic, Reconstructive, Hand, and Microvascular Surgery, and is committed to providing the utmost quality of care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Greets patients and reviews/document health history forms
  • Records vital signs and prepares exam/treatment rooms with necessary instruments
  • Transcribes reports from physicians and/or medical personnel and translates abbreviations into proper form
  • Reviews reports for completeness and corrects errors
  • Assists the surgeon in preparing for examinations, minor procedures, and accompanies the surgeon during examinations
  • Performs patient education as appropriate
  • Replenishes supplies, stocks, cleans exam rooms, and communicates supply shortages to the manager
  • May take photographs according to protocol and assists in suture or drain removal and other clinical activities as directed
  • Draws or prepares injectable drugs and maintains supplies/equipment for treatments, including sterilization
  • Disposes of contaminated items per OSHA guidelines and completes all patient logs
  • Takes messages from patients with clinical questions under the supervision of the physician or clinical staff
  • Provides pre‐operative instructions and schedules patients for surgery
  • Directs lab results to the surgeon or clinical staff for review and treatment planning
  • Maintains patient confidentiality by following HIPAA guidelines and coding compliance standards, attends necessary trainings, and performs other tasks as assigned by the Manager or Surgeon

Required Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma, GED or equivalent degree required
  • Experience Required: Proven work experience as a Medical Scribe, Medical Assistant, or similar role
  • Qualifications: Ability to accurately document patient care, advanced computer skills, and type 40+ WPM
  • Qualifications: Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong organizational abilities
  • Requirements: Proven ability to maintain patient confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA

Preferred Qualifications

  • Completion of a Medical Assisting program
  • Phlebotomy experience
  • CMA, RMA, RPT or MLT certificate
  • Familiarity with cosmetic, reconstructive, and hand procedures
  • At least one year of experience in a clinical setting
  • Experience with an Electronic Health Record (EHR) system
  • Bilingual in Spanish
  • Good bedside manner and interpersonal skills
