Position Overview

Spicer Group is seeking an experienced and motivated individual to join our Water Resources Service Group as a Design Engineer I in our Bingham Farms office. Our award-winning team of highly-educated engineers and designers specializes in innovative storm water drainage and flood control designs, dam design and inspection, development of storm water management plans, unique in-stream and stream bank restoration efforts, and quality-engineered lake level control structure designs. This position involves preparing designs, specifications, calculations, hydrologic and hydraulic studies, cost estimates, and more on projects across the region – an excellent opportunity to work at one of Michigan’s top engineering and surveying firms.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform assignments designed to develop professional knowledge and abilities while applying standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria.
  • Exercise limited judgment when making preliminary selections and adaptations of engineering alternatives.
  • Follow prescribed methods to perform specific portions of broader assignments under the guidance of an experienced engineer.
  • Apply standard practices to adjust and correlate data, recognize discrepancies, and follow operations through a series of detailed steps.
  • Assist in the preparation of design plans, specifications, supporting documents, and permit applications.
  • Help prepare calculations, quantities, cost estimates, and supporting documentation for projects.
  • Conduct hydrologic and hydraulic calculations and studies.
  • Utilize computer software (including HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, and SWMM) to analyze hydrologic and hydraulic data.
  • May perform plan drafting using AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and ArcGIS software.
  • May direct and review the work of Technicians and serve as an onsite project representative.
  • Physical presence is an essential function of this job.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering
  • 0 to 3 years of experience in an engineering field
  • Proficient in using HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, and SWMM modeling software
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and ArcGIS/ArcGIS Pro software
