Job Description
Position Overview
Our Cable Splicing Technicians work on all types of cable in manholes, trenches, and on poles – ensuring reliable connectivity and top‐notch service. They perform cable splicing, waterproofing, reading prints and schematics, and executing repair and maintenance functions on outside plant facilities. They are expected to operate company vehicles safely while following established safety practices.
Compensation: Starting pay ranges between $14.25 and $28.56 per hour with an average starting salary of $59,410 per year, which may vary by geography, experience, expertise, and training. This is a Temporary (Fixed Term) position based in Loves Park, Illinois with a 40-hour work week.
Key Responsibilities
- Splice and waterproof coverings of various cable types.
- Review, interpret, and analyze prints, diagrams, or schematics; receive and follow work orders.
- Utilize hand tools as well as electrical and mechanical equipment to perform technical tasks.
- Drive the company vehicle to service calls and other assignments.
- Perform repair and maintenance on outside plant facilities.
- Represent the company as the premier service provider.
- Adhere to safety practices by wearing and using appropriate safety equipment.
Required Qualifications
- Valid state driver’s license and a non-negligent driving record.
- Must meet a 275 lbs. weight limit due to safety requirements.
- Ability to pass a Department of Transportation physical.
- Capable of discerning differences in wire and cable colors.
- Ability to lift and move up to 100 lbs.
- Successful qualification on the Technical/Mechanical Test III (TMT III) pre-employment screening.
