Job Description

Position Overview

The Medical Assistant assists physicians as they assess, examine and treat patients. The role is key in managing patient flow and in conducting various diagnostic procedures such as EKGs, phlebotomy, injections, and taking vitals. The candidate will act as a liaison to physicians to ensure high patient satisfaction while maintaining and ordering necessary supplies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Interact with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson.
  • Escort patients to exam rooms and ensure proper identification.
  • Perform and document vital signs, clinical care quality measures, and collect medical history information.
  • Remain proficient and knowledgeable regarding the use and documentation requirements within information technology systems and within the established scope of practice.
  • Assist physicians with examinations and various diagnostic procedures, including performing EKGs and venipuncture/injections, to provide quality care.
  • Adhere to HIPAA privacy and security requirements.
  • Order clinical supplies to maintain inventory and ensure smooth office operations.

Required Qualifications

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Familiarity with medical office procedures.
  • HS Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Medical Assistant Certification must be obtained within 6 months of hire.
  • BLS certification through the American Heart Association must be obtained within 90 days of hire.
  • Experience in a physician office or other healthcare setting is preferred.
  • For NJ Only: Graduate of an accredited post-secondary medical assisting program with a minimum of 330 hours of instruction, including training in intramuscular and subcutaneous injections.
  • For internal Einstein applicants only: Medical Assistant certification is not required if the candidate is a current Einstein employee in a Medical Assistant role with a hire date prior to 7/1/2024 when transferring within Einstein entities.
