Intern - Engineer [Chicago, IL]

Job Description

We are looking for an Intern - Engineer that seeks to join a talented group of professionals to promote thriving communities by applying technology to solve complex issues in transportation. The ideal candidate will work, in partnership with Iteris Engineering staff, with state, regional, and local agencies to deliver various transportation engineering and planning projects to improve our communities.

What you will be doing:

• Assisting project engineers with transportation engineering or planning projects including fieldwork, design, analysis, preparation of presentations, graphics and other support tasks as needed
• Candidate will be trained and considered for the Assistant Engineer position in Chicago, IL upon completion of the internship
• The ideal candidate should possess basic MicroStation skills to directly assist in plan preparation for existing projects (IDOT D1 Design, Joliet ATMS etc.)
• Candidate will be also trained to assist in basic tasks of existing traffic signal timing projects including IDOT D1 SCAT and smaller construction-related projects
• Summarize/process count data and insert to Synchro, set up cameras for counts, conduct before/after-implementation travel studies, assist with field data collection, etc.

What you need to be successful in this role:

• Graduate of or currently enrolled in a Civil/Transportation engineering or planning program
• Ability to obtain EIT certification in the next 6 months
• Solid written and verbal communication/presentation skills
• Self-starter with good motivational skills
• Passion for transportation engineering
• Microstation, AutoCAD, Excel, and familiarity with Synchro

Compensation

Iteris anticipates paying an hourly rate between $26.00 and $31.00 for this role. Actual pay offered may be below or above these amounts, depending on the individual’s job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
