CHAIR OF THE DIVISION OF HEMATOLOGY %26 ONCOLOGY

Position Overview

The Chair of the Division of Hematology and Oncology (Division Chair) is responsible for the strategic development and day-to-day operations of the division across Cook County Health (CCH). Working with system leadership, the incumbent guides the transformation of the division while ensuring quality patient care and effective leadership of clinical staff.

Key Responsibilities

• Review applicable Collective Bargaining Agreements and consult with Labor Relations to generate management proposals.
• Participate in collective bargaining negotiations, caucus discussions, and working meetings.
• Document, recommend, and effectuate discipline at all levels while working with labor relations and labor counsel to enforce agreements.
• Direct and implement CCH management policies; navigate records systems to obtain necessary employee information.
• Manage staffing functions including hiring, transferring, promoting, or disciplining employees per applicable agreements.
• Supervise credentialed providers and division staff, ensuring prompt responses to patient complaints and maintaining quality patient care.
• Oversee compliance with quality assurance, risk management, academic, and clinical responsibilities with timely evaluations.
• Collaborate with clinical disciplines in the education and supervision of residents, fellows, and medical students.
• Manage capital and operating budget processes and participate in strategic staffing and operational initiatives.
• Conduct division staff meetings and participate in Quality Assurance/Process Improvement activities.
• Maintain an active clinical load of at least 50% and perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited institution.
• Licensed as a Physician in the State of Illinois prior to employment.
• Cleared for privileges by Medical Staff Services at the start of employment.
• Board Certified in Hematology and/or Medical Oncology.
• At least 7 years of experience as an Attending Physician, including a minimum of 2 years in an active training institution and 3 years administering clinical, educational, quality assurance, or research programs.

Preferred Qualifications

• Successful performance of discrete clinical research projects, including a leadership role in extramural research project applications.
