Position Overview
Our client, a leading innovator in the automotive industry, is seeking a Senior Automotive Cybersecurity Engineer to join their cutting-edge, fully remote team. This role is critical in ensuring the security and integrity of connected vehicle systems from the initial design through production and beyond. You will identify vulnerabilities, develop security protocols, and implement robust cybersecurity measures for automotive electronics, software, and communication networks while collaborating with cross-functional teams across hardware, software, and systems engineering. This position supports our client based in Detroit, Michigan, US.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement comprehensive cybersecurity strategies for automotive systems and components.
- Conduct threat modeling, risk assessments, and vulnerability analyses for vehicle architectures.
- Design and integrate security controls, including encryption, authentication, and intrusion detection systems.
- Ensure compliance with automotive cybersecurity standards and regulations (ISO 21434, WP.29).
- Collaborate with hardware and software engineering teams to embed security requirements early in the design process.
- Develop and maintain security testing methodologies and tools.
- Respond to and investigate security incidents and vulnerabilities.
- Stay current with emerging cybersecurity threats and trends in the automotive industry.
- Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership in cybersecurity matters.
- Create and maintain detailed security documentation, including security plans and reports.
- Work closely with supplier partners to ensure their components meet security requirements.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in cybersecurity, with a focus on embedded systems or automotive applications.
- Strong understanding of automotive networks (CAN, Automotive Ethernet) and protocols.
- Knowledge of cryptography, secure coding practices, and penetration testing techniques.
- Familiarity with relevant automotive cybersecurity standards and frameworks.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and effectively in a remote, collaborative team environment.
- Experience with scripting languages (Python, Bash) for security testing automation is a plus.
- Relevant cybersecurity certifications (e.g., CISSP, CSSLP) are advantageous.
