Job Description

Position Overview

2025 Specialty Nurse Intern Program - Adult Emergency Department (Full-time, Day Shift & Night Shift Available). In conjunction with the University of Chicago Medicine’s mission to provide superior health care, the Specialty Nurse Intern is a nursing student who provides patient care in specialty areas under the direction of a registered nurse. In this year‐round internship, students are matched with the Adult Emergency Department for the duration of the academic program, with a formal internship lasting throughout the entire academic year and the expectation to work 2 years post‐graduation. We are looking for candidates with a passion to work for UChicago!

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform clinical duties in the Adult Emergency Department under RN supervision, working flexible 12-hour shifts (including day, night, and some weekend shifts) throughout the academic year.

Required Qualifications

  • BLS (CPR) Certification
  • Two professional reference letters (one required from a nursing instructor)
  • Copy of your most recent transcript
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0
  • 250-word essays on “What being a nurse means to you?” and “How this program will help you achieve your future goals as a nurse?”
  • Must be enrolled full-time in an accredited ADN, BSN, or direct-entry MSN program and entering your final year in the fall of 2025
  • Upload all documents and reference letters via your candidate profile; all required documents must be submitted prior to your scheduled interview
