Position Overview
Handshake is recruiting Airline Pilots, Copilots, and Flight Engineer Professionals to contribute to an hourly, temporary AI research project—but there’s no AI experience needed. In this program, you’ll leverage your professional experience to evaluate what AI models produce in your field, assess content related to your work, and deliver clear, structured feedback that strengthens the model’s understanding of your workplace tasks and language. The Handshake AI opportunity runs year-round, with project opportunities opening periodically across different areas of expertise.
Key Responsibilities

- The hours are flexible, with no minimum commitment, but most average 5-20 hrs.

Required Qualifications
- At least 4 years of professional experience in one or more relevant fields.
- Use flight instrumentation to guide aircraft when visibility is poor.
- Start engines, operate controls, and pilot aircraft to transport passengers, mail, or freight in accordance with flight plans and regulations.
- Work as part of a flight crew, particularly during takeoff and landing operations.
- Respond to and report in-flight emergencies and mechanical malfunctions.
- Inspect aircraft for defects and malfunctions using pre-flight checklists.
- Communicate with control towers to obtain takeoff clearances, arrival instructions, and other operational information.
- Monitor engine performance, fuel consumption, and aircraft systems during flight.
- Monitor gauges, warning devices, and control panels to verify aircraft performance and regulate engine speed.
- Navigate aircraft along planned routes using autopilot and flight management systems.
- Verify passenger, cargo, and fuel distribution to ensure compliance with weight and balance requirements.
- Confer with flight dispatchers and weather forecasters to stay informed of flight conditions.
- Order changes to fuel loads, routes, schedules, or cargo to ensure flight safety.
- Brief crew members on flight details, including destinations, duties, and responsibilities.
- Select routes, altitudes, and speeds to ensure safe, efficient, and smooth flights.
- Direct activities of aircraft crew members during flight.
- Record flight information such as times, distances, and fuel usage in logbooks.
- Instruct pilots and student pilots on aircraft operation and flight principles.
- Make flight-related announcements using public address systems.
- Coordinate flight activities with ground crews and air traffic control, and communicate procedures to crew members.
- Conduct in-flight tests and evaluations at varying altitudes and weather conditions to assess equipment and system performance.
- File instrument flight plans with air traffic control to coordinate flights with other air traffic.
- Perform minor aircraft maintenance or arrange for major maintenance as needed.
- Evaluate pilots and pilot-license applicants for proficiency and competency.
- Plan flight activities, test schedules, and prepare flight evaluation reports.
- Participate in asynchronous work in partnership with leading AI labs.
