Position Overview

Perry Ellis International, Inc. represents a diverse portfolio of lifestyle apparel brands and licenses nationally recognized trademarks. We are seeking an Associate Technical Designer to support the development of our Swim product. This role is perfect for a detail‑driven, curious candidate eager to deepen technical expertise while ensuring high‑quality, performance‑driven products meet our brand standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Partner with Design to translate creative concepts into technically executable products and support Senior Technical Design in developing blocks and new fits.
  • Build and maintain accurate, detailed tech packs including specs, construction details, and BOMs while updating graded measurement charts to ensure consistency across styles.
  • Review prototypes and samples for fit, measurement, and construction accuracy, documenting clear comments and construction notes.
  • Support quality checks ensuring swim garments meet performance, fit, and durability standards.
  • Participate in fit sessions, take measurements, and record fit adjustments.
  • Apply foundational knowledge of pattern making, grading, and marker efficiency to support fit accuracy and cost‑effective development.
  • Communicate daily with global vendors to resolve technical challenges and maintain development momentum, partnering with Senior Technical Designer as needed.
  • Utilize 3D development platforms for virtual samples, construction visualization, and early‑stage prototyping.
  • Maintain digital assets and support the integration of 3D into the development workflow.
  • Track and monitor progress of Fit samples, Size Set and Wear Test Samples, and Pre Production samples in relation to deadlines.
  • Ensure all documentation is accurate, up‑to‑date, and aligned with seasonal calendars.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline processes and improve accuracy within tech packs and workflows.
  • Maintain organized records, libraries, and development tools.

Required Qualifications

  • A.A. in Apparel Design or Apparel Production or a related field; equivalent work experience considered.
  • 2-4 years of experience in technical design and pattern making.
  • Proficient in Google Apps, MS Windows, Adobe Illustrator, PLM, and pattern design software (Optitex preferred) as well as 3D development software (Browzwear preferred).
  • Foundational understanding of stretch fabrics, swim construction, and performance fit.
  • Excellent attention to detail with strong organizational skills.
  • Clear communicator with a collaborative, solution‑oriented mindset.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and changing priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
  • A dedicated team player.
