Job Description

Position Overview

Maryland Environmental Service (MES) is seeking an Environmental Field Technician to join the Technical and Environmental Services Group (TES) at the State Highway Administration Office of Materials Technology. In this role, you will primarily perform fieldwork including data collection, sampling, and monitoring for SHA projects, along with occasional office duties under the direction of a manager or crew chief. This position may require working non-standard hours including overtime, nights, weekends, holidays, and during adverse weather conditions. Overnight travel is possible. Salary: $45,666.23 - $62,791.65

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct field data collection, sampling, and monitoring for various SHA projects.
  • Provide technical support and coordinate with peers and technical personnel.
  • Operate field vehicles and equipment during project assignments.
  • Perform record keeping, complete daily logs, and maintain tracking sheets.
  • Assist with minor equipment maintenance and repair as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • Education: Graduation from a standard high school or possession of a GED equivalency certification.
  • Experience Required: At least one year of experience in sampling, field data collection, geotechnical, GPR, environmental monitoring, or a construction-related field.
  • Must be able to pass a Department of Transportation (DOT) pre-employment physical exam.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license with less than 5 points.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience operating field vehicles and equipment.
  • Proficiency in field analysis, sampling techniques, and data entry.
  • Strong record keeping skills for documentation and report preparation.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently.
