Job Description

Position Overview

This role identifies and solves business problems by using various numerical techniques, algorithms, and models in statistical modeling, machine learning, operations research, and data mining. The candidate will support data science initiatives, communicate across product teams and with customers, and educate on artificial intelligence and statistical models. The position requires working in a hybrid model in the greater Baltimore/Washington metropolitan area – splitting time between home and a CareFirst location based on business needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Mine and extract data while applying algorithms to derive insights; contribute to analytics, reporting, and data governance activities related to Cost of Care Reporting.
  • Explore data profiles and understand their limitations.
  • Assist business units in innovating organizational performance.
  • Utilize existing data science tools to explore data patterns.
  • Translate business priorities into data science deliverables.
  • Review trends in ML/AI/data science and integrate new designs into solutions and products.
  • Guide and mentor less experienced staff and may lead a team of matrixed resources.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related field, or an additional 4 years of relevant work experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience.
  • Willingness and ability to work in a hybrid model in the greater Baltimore/Washington area.
  • Capability to work independently and guide less experienced colleagues.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior healthcare analytics experience is a must.
  • Experience delivering consistent and transparent work to both internal and external business partners.
  • Strong ability to work independently with effective communication and documentation skills.
  • Proficiency with a variety of data science tools and frameworks.
  • Knowledge in model evaluation, tuning, operationalization, and scalability of scientific techniques.
  • Familiarity with software engineering principles and practices.
  • Expertise in statistical modeling applications.

Benefits & Perks

  • Compensation: $86,400 - $171,600, subject to factors including experience, internal equity, and location.
