Job Summary: INSIDE PLANT (ISP) STRUCTURED CABLING TECHNICIAN – The role supports the installation of fiber and copper cabling materials for Telecom builds, including large and small scale buildouts through overhead or underfloor infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain a safe and controlled work environment by following all site protocols and ensuring adherence to cabling best practices regarding routing, dressing standards, and diversity requirements.
- Arrive on time with required tools and Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) while adapting to team suggestions to maximize productivity within time restrictions.
- Collaborate with other trades and contribute to a mutually productive work environment.
- Adhere to all safety and security protocols for campus and data center environments.
- Take initiative to keep work sites clean and organized throughout the day.
- Follow written scopes of work and support documentation including engineered drawings, patching matrices, and bill of materials (BOM).
- Coordinate and communicate effectively with team members, various departments, and management.
- Utilize basic hand tools (snips, socket sets, screwdrivers, pliers, wire cutters, strippers, and crimpers) to support installation tasks.
Required Qualifications
- Knowledge of structured cabling, including proper cable installation practices, dressing, lacing, and network design with redundancy concepts.
- Experience operating scissor lifts or other simple machinery used in ISP builds.
- Familiarity with technical devices and applications (laptops, tablets, cell phones) for field communication and documentation.
- Understanding of fiber optic and copper cable designs, termination methods, connector types, and best practices for handling connectors and labeling.
- Competency with troubleshooting methods, cable testing processes, and validation documentation.
- Practical skills with measuring tools (including lasers), careful attention to detail, and sound decision-making abilities.
- Must hold a valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record.
- Able to perform physical tasks such as sitting, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and lifting up to 75 lbs., while working in all weather conditions.
Education & Experience: High School or GED with 1-5 years of relevant experience in Electronics, Telecommunications, Construction, or Project Management.
