Job Description
Position Overview
Puget Sound Energy’s Engineering Operations team is seeking a highly experienced Senior Civil Engineer to join its civil engineering design team. In this role, you will contribute to vital projects that power communities and support the growing demand for green energy across Western Washington. You will work on developing civil permit and construction drawings for land development projects, including grading plans, storm drainage, and erosion control, while ensuring compliance with state and local regulations and industry standards. This position is “safety sensitive” and requires adherence to strict safety compliance alongside strong technical and communication skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Interpret and modify guidelines for application to existing problems or processes.
- Prepare complex designs, standards, studies, and analyses.
- Provide a detailed design review of internal or external technical documents.
- Prepare cost estimates and project evaluations without direct supervision.
- Plan and develop project budgets with appropriate documentation.
- Ensure compliance with codes, standards, and design, operation, and maintenance requirements.
- Identify potential areas of weakness and initiate corrective action.
- Document and share work to strengthen the engineering team’s skills.
- Communicate solutions clearly with diverse audiences, both verbally and in writing.
- Support emergency response work including restoration efforts during system failures.
- Lead or coordinate the work of junior engineers, assistants, and field technicians when required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science degree or Professional Engineering (PE) license in electrical, mechanical, civil, or a related engineering field.
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in planning, design, field work, cost estimating, and scheduling for engineering projects.
- Proven organizational, documentation, prioritization, and project management skills.
- Strong interpersonal and effective communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in the utility industry.
- Possession of a Professional Engineering (PE) license.
- Knowledge of engineering economics and utility accounting practices.
- Experience working on complex engineering projects.

- Compensation: $108,200.00 - $180,200.00 per year plus annual incentive bonuses
