Job Description
Position Overview
The Tax Senior, Customs & International Trade is responsible for utilizing basic research skills and applying their educational background to identify potential trade issues and opportunities. This role provides advice to clients across various industries on import and export matters.
Key Responsibilities
- Research, write, and review international trade advice related to the Harmonized Tariff Schedule, customs federal regulations, NAFTA, entry processes, and customs valuation.
- Conduct in-depth research on U.S. and international import and export trade matters and formulate trade savings opportunities.
- Collaborate with Firm specialists and client service teams on client engagements and proposals.
- Organize and conduct effective internal CPE training sessions in the area of specialization.
- Establish relationships with BDO customs experts across jurisdictions and identify opportunities for drafting tax alerts on international customs and global trade tax matters.
- Supervise Customs & International Trade Associates and Interns, provide performance feedback, and mentor team members.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics or a related field.
- Two or more years of experience in import/export trade consulting (customs attorney, customs broker, trade specialist, or related role).
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and experienced with tools such as RIA, BNA, and Lexis Nexis.
- Excellent verbal and written communication, strong analytical skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects while meeting deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
- Juris Doctorate degree, LLM, and/or MBA.
- CPA certification, admission as an Attorney in a U.S. jurisdiction, IRS Enrolled Agent, or licensed customs broker.
- Familiarity with international trade regulations and experience in conducting internal CPE training sessions.
