Position Overview

Join eBay as an MTS 2 Software Engineer on the Cloud Data Technologies (CDT) team and help build a state‐of‐the‐art Data Platform that empowers millions of buyers and sellers worldwide. At eBay, a global commerce leader, you’ll work with passionate thinkers and innovators to design, develop, and evolve scalable, reliable, and cost-efficient systems driving the end-to-end data lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own and deliver major components of eBay’s Data Platforms from design through production rollout.
  • Design and evolve distributed systems for ingestion, streaming, lakehouse/warehouse, catalog, and governance.
  • Contribute to long-term architecture through design reviews and authoring architecture design documents ensuring scalability and resilience.
  • Build secure systems that balance latency, correctness, and cost while ensuring compliance.
  • Drive operational excellence with observability, incident response, and proactive system improvements.
  • Collaborate with product, infrastructure, and analytics teams to align technical outcomes with business needs.
  • Learn and grow in areas such as governance, orchestration, and privacy engineering.

Required Qualifications

  • 8+ years of distributed systems or data platform experience with a proven ability to design and deliver critical systems.
  • Proficiency in Java/Python, CI/CD, and containerized environments.
  • Hands-on expertise with tools such as Kafka, Flink, Spark, Delta/Iceberg, Kubernetes, and NoSQL/columnar stores.
  • Strong foundation in algorithms, distributed design, and a systems thinker mindset.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to independently deliver complex projects.
  • BS/MS in Computer Science or equivalent experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with cloud environments and multi-cloud resiliency strategies.
  • Familiarity with big data ecosystems and distributed data processing frameworks.
  • Exposure to governance, orchestration, and privacy engineering practices.

  • Compensation: Base pay range of $132,000 - $222,100 (actual offer may vary based on location, skills, and experience).
