Job Description

Position Overview

As a Robotic Test System Developer co-op, you will work under our lead test engineer to expand our testing capabilities at ESTAT. You will assess and improve existing test functions and develop new ones for robotic test systems that involve motors, force sensors, encoders, and – of course – electroadhesives. You will help bring new test systems online to verify performance requirements for custom clutch designs. Additionally, you will support the Lightweight Electroadhesive ExoTendon system for fighter pilot neck protection.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess and improve existing test functions on robotic test systems.
  • Develop new test functions to verify that performance requirements are met for each custom clutch design.
  • Support the expansion of testing capabilities, including system prototyping and functional verification.
  • Help bring new test systems online and ensure they operate reliably.
  • Collaborate with the team in a fast-paced, agile environment to meet weekly milestones and project goals.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience programming in Python and Embedded C.
  • Eagerness to learn about and work with electroadhesives – no prior experience is expected.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience controlling motors and processing sensor data.
  • Familiarity with electromechanical design, iterative prototyping, CAD, physical testing, sensor calibration, PID control, and debugging.
  • Strong documentation and presentation skills.
  • Two 6 month rotations are strongly preferred to allow ample learning and meaningful contribution.
