Position Overview

Join HII’s Newport News Shipbuilding – the largest industrial employer in Virginia with over 25,000 employees and a storied 135-year history in building U.S. Navy nuclear carriers and submarines – as a TELECOMMUNICATION TECH 2. This Full-Time, 1st Shift role provides onsite installation, repair, and maintenance support for voice and data systems. You will work in a dynamic environment with minimal supervision. Travel Requirement: 10%-25%. No relocation assistance available and Clearance Not Required to Start.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan network installations by studying customer orders and technical specifications, and by ordering and gathering necessary equipment, supplies, and tools.
• Set up pre-configured network equipment and establish voice and data networks by running, pulling, terminating, and splicing cables; installing telecommunications equipment, routers, switches, multiplexors, cable trays, and alarm/fire-suppression systems.
• Perform installation coordination activities with vendors and conduct onsite troubleshooting and repairs of network outages.
• Liaise with outside vendors to order circuits and/or equipment as required.
• Maintain customer rapport by listening to concerns and providing timely resolutions.

Required Qualifications

• Associate’s Degree and 1 year of relevant experience
• NNS Apprentice School graduate
• Navy Nuclear Power School (NNPS) graduate
• High School/GED and 2 years of related Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, or Military experience
• High School/GED and 4 years of non-related Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, or Military experience

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge and experience in network cabling (CAT5e, CAT6, and Fiber Optic cable)
• Experience in racking preconfigured network equipment
• Ability to perform basic continuity testing
• Familiarity with physical network components such as switches, routers, and T1 terminal equipment
