Job Description
Position Overview
HDR is seeking a qualified Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our national Power Generation team. In this role, you will help develop, contract, and implement natural gas and renewable energy generation projects while serving as Engineer of Record or Owner’s Engineer. You will be part of a multi-discipline team supporting power and energy projects in utility, IPP, industrial, and institutional sectors. This position offers the opportunity to lead mechanical engineering efforts, collaborate across disciplines, and drive projects that change the world.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the mechanical project team and coordinate with other engineering disciplines to ensure successful project delivery.
- Provide mechanical engineering support for detailed design, construction documentation, and owner’s engineer projects.
- Monitor project status, manage schedules, and communicate technical project details with clients and vendors.
Required Qualifications
- A Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering
- A Experience Required: minimum of 10 years of experience
- Valid Professional Engineers (PE or P.Eng) license
- Extensive experience in project execution within the Power Market Sector
- Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office and standard Power Market Sector design software (e.g., PLS CAD, AutoCAD, Plant 3D, AutoPipe, Revit)
- Commitment to actively participate in an employee-owned culture
Preferred Qualifications
- BS degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited university
- Minimum 15 years of experience in power generation design
- Experience with gas turbines, steam turbines and/or large reciprocating engines
- Design experience with simple cycle and combined cycle power generation systems
- Prior experience with an engineering power consulting or EPC firm is desired
- A blend of design and owner’s engineer project experience in the fossil power industry (minimum 10 years)
- Ability to handle multiple concurrent assignments
- Excellent communication and analytical skills
- Willingness to mentor less experienced engineers and EITs
- Proficiency in working within an established schedule and budget
- Willingness to travel less than 10% for client meetings, vendor interactions, and project site visits

- Salary: $108,661 - $204,250 per year
