Position Overview

Chapin Hall is seeking an Associate Researcher (Data Analytics and Visualization) to work on project teams engaged in empirical, analytical, and conceptual child and family welfare research in Illinois. The Associate Researcher’s main contribution will be the management, linking, statistical analysis, and presentation of large-scale administrative child welfare data – including visualizations when appropriate. This individual will transform raw administrative data into analyzable formats; participate in discussions regarding study design and methodology; perform complex modeling and statistical analyses using R, Python, SQL/PostgreSQL, STATA, QGIS, VBA, and/or other analytic software; and support survey design using tools such as RedCap. In addition, the Associate Researcher will engage with external stakeholders and contribute to writing sections of research results for funders and publications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Using R, Python, SQL/PostgreSQL, QGIS, STATA, VBA, and/or other analytic software, independently convert, merge, and assemble large-scale administrative data for multiple projects.
  • Develop and maintain scripts that transform administrative data into analyzable formats with a strong emphasis on reproducibility and clear documentation.
  • Automate processes for importing, documenting, integrating, and updating data while following coding best practices such as code review, version control, and proper documentation.
  • Provide support to the Data Engineer by maintaining the ETL pipeline and conducting code reviews of pipeline scripts as needed.
  • Perform modeling, complex statistical analyses, and visualizations under supervision.
  • Participate in discussions regarding study design, assist in developing study objectives, and help design sampling, randomization, and data collection procedures.
  • Engage in qualitative research including focus groups and surveys; assist in survey design, constructing survey tools in RedCap or equivalent software, and analyze and visualize survey results.
  • Write sections of research results for funders and publications, and assist with report production including proofing, formatting, and creating tables and graphs.
  • Manage competing priorities and requests from multiple team members and client partners, ensuring appropriate prioritization.
  • Participate in meetings with external stakeholders and present findings at meetings and/or conferences.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Benefits & Perks

  • Flexible Remote Work: Embrace a “Work from Anywhere” approach, with the flexibility to work remotely from anywhere in the United States.
