Hospital Aide - FT - Day Shift

Position Overview

Hourly Range: $18.44 - $23.78

This role involves performing semi-skilled tasks associated with the care of patients and related clerical duties at Erie County Medical Center Corporation (ECMCC). The incumbent supports daily patient care operations under direct supervision in accordance with Federal, State, and local regulations.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist with patient care activities such as taking vital signs, measuring height and weight, monitoring fluid input/output, performing catheterization, simple treatments, dressings, pre-procedure preparations, and 12 lead ECGs.
• Provide personal hygiene support including bathing, oral care, shaving, and assisting with bowel and bladder elimination as needed.
• Care for patient clothing and personal property, feed patients, assist with feeding, and handle tray setups and collections.
• Apply medical devices such as anti-embolic stockings, ace wraps, abdominal binders, and similar supports.
• Maintain cleanliness by distributing fresh linens, making beds, and cleaning bedside stands, bathrooms, and patient care areas.
• Assist with patient transportation, transfers, ambulation, positioning, and turning, ensuring the use of appropriate devices and techniques.
• Support the admission, transfer, and discharge processes while ensuring patient safety through proper restraint application, monitoring, and timely release.
• Implement infection control measures by performing aseptic techniques, isolation procedures, and proper cleaning of equipment and care areas.
• Collect, document, and report patient data, adverse situations, and accidents; answer phones as required.

Required Qualifications

• Working knowledge of patient care techniques including feeding, bathing, and assisting with personal hygiene while maintaining privacy and confidentiality.
• Ability to perform cleaning and housekeeping tasks and to follow simple oral and written instructions.
• Strong interpersonal skills; demonstrated tact, compassion, and the ability to work well with others.
• Familiarity with basic first aid techniques.

Special Requirements

• Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification from an ECMCC approved provider is required within 60 days of appointment and must be maintained throughout employment.
• If assigned to Radiology: Must have working knowledge of New York State Department of Health 10 NYCRR Part 16 regarding radiation safety and uses.
• If assigned to a Behavioral Health Inpatient Setting: Completion of the NY State Office of Mental Health-Bureau of Education and Workforce Development (BEWD) certified safety program within 3 months of appointment and participation in annual re-training.
