Mechanical Engineer III

Position Overview

At Gulf States Engineering, Inc. (GSE), you will play a key role in developing innovative HVAC and plumbing design solutions for medium and large commercial and industrial projects. This position is based in Gulfport, MS, Mobile, AL, or Nashville, TN and involves collaborating with clients and internal teams to deliver technically sound and cost‐effective designs. Occasional travel between offices may be required.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop HVAC and plumbing design concepts for commercial and industrial projects.
• Collaborate with clients to understand technical requirements for HVAC and plumbing systems.
• Work with internal stakeholders to balance technical, schedule, and cost requirements.
• Conduct trade studies to select and evaluate the best design approaches.
• Oversee the generation of engineering drawings using common GD&T practices and prepare/review technical reports, calculations, and specifications.
• Mentor junior engineers and designers to develop high-quality, technically sound designs.
• Support construction through RFI responses and submittal reviews, and generate task plans to support proposal efforts.
• Demonstrate strong communication skills and the ability to work autonomously as well as in a team environment.
• Perform plan in hand checks and other project-related duties as directed by project managers and upper management.

Required Qualifications

• Four to seven years of experience.
• Bachelor’s degree.

Preferred Qualifications

• Working knowledge of ANSI Y14.5 drawing standards and geometric tolerance.
• Experience in complex industrial HVAC design using natural ventilation, forced ventilation, DX cooling/heat pumps, chillers/boilers.
• Experience designing chilled and hot water systems.
• Strong HVAC controls design experience including controls diagrams, matrices, and sequences of operation.
• Experience with industrial plumbing system design (sanitary, domestic water, natural gas) with a strong knowledge of relevant codes.
• Familiarity with selecting grease interceptors and oil/water interceptors.
• Working knowledge of Revit is highly preferred.
