Job Description

Position Overview

The Airport Engineer (State Role Title: Architect/Engineer I) position with the Department of Aviation is seeking a civil engineer to perform airport capital improvement, security, facility maintenance, obstruction, and other field inspections. In this role you will provide detailed engineering advice and manage DOAV-funded capital improvement projects to ensure compliance with FAA, state, and federal laws. The compensation range is $50,000.00-$85,000.00 and the position requires in-state travel.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct airport capital improvement, security, facility maintenance, obstruction, and other field inspections.
  • Provide detailed engineering advice, assistance, and management for capital improvement projects in compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Respond to inquiries from airport sponsors, consultants, and government agencies regarding program criteria.
  • Review and approve construction plans, specifications, and engineering documents.
  • Attend ACIP, predesign, preconstruction, periodic on-site, and final inspections of DOAV-funded projects.
  • Process grant agreements, amendments, and reimbursement requests while maintaining projects in the DOAV online funding portal (Airport System Management).
  • Build effective relationships with airport staff, sponsors, and consultants.
  • Travel within the state as required.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience conducting on-site construction field inspections.
  • Knowledge of construction techniques and methods.
  • Experience in conducting field surveys.
  • Project management experience, including managing grant-in-aid programs.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word & Excel).

Preferred Qualifications

  • B.S. in Civil Engineering or equivalent education and experience.
  • Airport facility experience.
  • Private pilot’s license.
