Position Overview

The Project Engineer is responsible for facility engineering project support. Projects relate to the design, build, and improvement of Cencora's distribution facilities and processes, with assignments spanning one or more components and projects that may vary in size, complexity, and cross-functional involvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Supports project managers and directors in developing and implementing material handling systems, operational processes, and new facilities or building renovations.
- Works closely with project managers and/or directors to assist in the development of project charters.
- May assist in the preparation of capital expenditure requests for projects.
- Collaborates with senior project engineers to manage assigned project scope per project charter guidelines.
- Involves project elements such as material handling equipment, warehouse/business systems, and building construction or modifications typically found in a distribution environment.
- Undertakes duties including data analytics, developing design criteria, performing simulations, preparing RFPs, vendor evaluation, creating AutoCAD 2D layouts, and site coordination including construction oversight and issue resolution.
- Coordinates cross-functional efforts with internal teams and external resources when assigned multiple areas of scope.
- Develops and maintains engineering documentation including standard operating procedures and DC as-built drawings.
- Provides objective engineering insight into evaluations of operational and business process changes.
- Manages and reports on budgets, and develops, maintains, and tracks timelines for assigned scopes.
- Issues purchase orders in accordance with company policy.
- Generates timely and concise communications regarding task status and pending issues.
- Assists in developing supplier specifications and RFPs.
- Manages engagement with external consultants, outsourced resources, and vendors related to assigned project scopes.
- Coordinates activities with the project director, senior project manager, and internal project teams to ensure alignment.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in Engineering.
- Experience in engineering, logistics, supply chain or a similar field.
- 3+ years of directly related and progressively responsible experience through employment, internships, Co-Op programs, or senior design projects.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in engineering tasks related to warehouse operations, design, business systems, process improvement, standardization, and/or engineered labor standards.
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to engage technical and non-technical audiences.
- Excellent analytical, conceptual, and problem-solving skills to evaluate business challenges and identify effective solutions.
- Strong organizational skills with keen attention to detail.
- Ability to handle sensitive information with tact and discretion.
- Proven presentation skills with the ability to clearly discuss technical information and establish rapport.
- Capability to resolve issues efficiently and effectively.
- Proficiency in engineering tools such as Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Project, Access databases, Word, SIMIO or other simulation software, and AutoCAD.
- Willingness to travel up to 75% of the time.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in consulting, distribution operations, simulation, or systems integration.
- Experience using simulation tools such as Enterprise Dynamics, Llamasoft, FlexSim, AutoMod, or Arena.
