Job Description
Position Overview
The Sepsis Response Nurse is staffed by highly experienced, critical care–trained nurses from diverse specialty backgrounds who use technology, innovation, and education to improve patient and quality outcomes. In this role, you will assist with early detection and recognition of sepsis, partner with a multidisciplinary team to provide timely interventions, mentor staff on sepsis bundle guidelines, and respond proactively to Sepsis Alerts to prevent patient decompensation.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct systematic, continuous, and comprehensive assessments of patient health status from admission to discharge, ensuring safety and continuity of care.
- Administer medications per licensure authority, assess their effects, and document administration in accordance with policies and regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate with the healthcare team to develop individualized, age-specific care plans that incorporate current scientific knowledge and national patient safety goals.
- Identify and prioritize patient problems using subjective and objective data and adjust the multidisciplinary plan of care as needed.
- Implement nursing care interventions, evaluate patient and family responses, and revise care plans to promote optimal outcomes.
- Recognize care variances and intervene early to prevent or address adverse events.
- Conduct comprehensive patient and family teaching, ensuring sensitivity to age, learning needs, and cultural background.
- Track and trend sepsis, quality, and patient safety data to support continuous improvement.
- Advocate for patients and families, ensuring respect for their rights and maintaining confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA privacy and security standards.
- Proactively use safety surveillance to prevent adverse outcomes and maintain compliance with all company policies and standards.
- Perform additional duties as assigned within the scope of nursing practice.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of critical care or emergency department experience.
- Active Kentucky Registered Nurse License or compact license with privileges to work in Kentucky.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) accredited by the American Heart Association.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) accredited by the American Heart Association.
- Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN) or Trauma Certified Registered Nurse (TCRN) certification upon hire or within 1 year of hire.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from an accredited program or enrollment in an approved BSN program.
- 1 year of rapid response experience.
- TNCC or TCAR certification.
