Job Description

Position Overview

At QE Solar we’re making clean energy more efficient! For over a decade, our team has delivered technical expertise and an investigative approach to Solar Operations & Maintenance. Managing over 3GWs of PV/BESS projects and hundreds of employees, we maximize asset uptime and return on investment while prioritizing safety. As a Solar Engineer, you will provide ongoing field support for solar, battery storage (BESS) and other renewable systems, performing routine site inspections, maintenance projects, equipment testing, troubleshooting, and emergency repairs to ensure optimal performance and compliance.

Salary: $30.00 - $40.00 per hour
Schedule: Full-time

Key Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and repair system failures at solar sites, and identify potential issues to optimize site performance.
  • Assist field teams with real-time solutions, perform preventative maintenance on solar, BESS, and related electrical equipment, and oversee warranty matters.
  • Manage large-scale commercial & industrial PV and battery storage systems including on-site visits and remote troubleshooting via smart software platforms.
  • Ensure a safe, event-free work environment by strictly adhering to company and client safety protocols and procedures.
  • Prepare service tickets and detailed reports for site visits, emergency repairs, equipment modifications, and improvement investigations.
  • Communicate effectively with technical leads, project managers, and third-party sub-contractors to ensure timely resolution of issues and maintain project compliance.

Required Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Experience Required: 0-3+ years of service industry project management experience or 0-2+ years of specialist technical experience with solar projects, BESS, or other renewable systems; experience with data acquisition systems.
  • Requirements: Current, valid, active Driver’s License, QE Approved Insurance Coverage, personal work vehicle, and a clean background check with motor vehicle report.
  • Qualifications: Working knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems, National Electrical Code, OSHA safe workplace practices, and the ability to read and interpret electrical drawings.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to lift 25/50/80 pounds regularly, move over uneven terrain, stand, sit or drive for prolonged periods, and safely climb ladders while carrying 50 pounds.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 0-2+ years technical experience as a field technician; experience working with 600v-1500v systems; strong knowledge of NEC, IEEE, and NFPA-70e requirements; proficiency with technology and computing platforms; and experience with C&I/Utility Scale solar projects.
  • Qualifications: Preferred certifications include inverter and/or BESS manufacturers’ certifications (e.g., SunGrow, Power Electronics, Solectria, BYD), Thermography (Level 1), NABCEP PV Installer Certification, minimum OSHA 10/30 Certification, NFPA 70E course completion, CPR/First Aid, and familiarity with IT/networking protocols (RS485, Modbus, tcp/ip).
