Job Description

Position Overview

We are seeking a hands-on Mechanical Engineer to support and improve existing manufacturing equipment on the plant floor. In this role you will design simple, reliable mechanical adjustments, modify and retrofit machines, and work directly with maintenance and operations to implement improvements that hold up in real production environments. This is not a purely desk-based design role – you will be on the factory floor measuring, testing, adjusting, and troubleshooting equipment while ensuring all changes are safe, repeatable, and production-ready.

Compensation: From $85.00 per hour
Job Type: Contract
Work Location: In person

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement simple, durable mechanical adjustment mechanisms for existing manufacturing equipment.
  • Modify and retrofit machines on the production floor to improve performance and reliability.
  • Work hands-on with equipment to measure, test, adjust, and troubleshoot mechanical designs.
  • Collaborate with maintenance, operations, and vendors to install and refine machine improvements.
  • Ensure all mechanical changes are safe and compliant with machine guarding and safety standards.
  • Create repeatable adjustment methods that remain stable under heat, vibration, and continuous operation.
  • Test changes on live equipment and refine solutions through final production implementation.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience designing practical mechanical adjustment mechanisms such as brackets, slides, screws, or mounts.
  • Ability to design adjustments that lock in place and remain stable under heat, vibration, and high-speed operation.
  • Proven experience modifying, improving, or retrofitting existing manufacturing equipment.
  • Working knowledge of machine safety, guarding standards, and methods to make changes without creating safety risks.
  • Willingness and ability to work on the plant floor, measuring, testing, adjusting equipment, and troubleshooting issues.
  • Experience collaborating with maintenance teams, operators, and external vendors.
