Job Description
Position Overview
The Senior Technical Support role provides expert assistance in refinery operations, ensuring safety, reliability, and profitability through effective troubleshooting, process design, and technical advisory support for both Operations and Engineering teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Senior Technical Support for Personnel:
- Monitor assigned area(s) and overall refinery operations; advise management and engineering of any emerging issues.
- Advise technical staff and assist in planning, troubleshooting, and unit support.
- Assist in training technical, management, and hourly personnel.
- Provide technical review of designs, MOC’s, and change orders.
- Troubleshoot field issues using engineering principles and collaborating with Operations.
- Project Development:
- Identify refinery changes to improve safety, reliability, profitability, and environmental compliance.
- Develop long-range processes and new product lines to maintain profitability.
- Scope, design, and support process design for refinery projects.
- Obtain support and funding for major projects.
- Assist in commissioning and troubleshooting of significant unit or system changes.
- Improve unit and system procedures and coordinate long-range functions, such as PSM programs.
- Advisory and Support Responsibilities:
- Provide senior technical advisory support to management and various departments.
- Advise on both technical and non-technical personnel performance and potential.
- Offer in-depth technical support across the refinery to ensure comprehensive issue resolution.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering from an accredited college.
- Eight or more years of refinery/petrochemical experience with demonstrated process knowledge.
- Proven experience in refinery planning or process equipment design.
- Leadership in improving income generation and reducing costs for the refinery.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Strong collaboration skills with management, engineers, and hourly personnel.
- Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) with the ability to lead training sessions.
- Experience with refinery process software, including simulation and design tools.
- Valid driver’s license.

- Must be certified to use respiratory protection, including a tight-fitting full-face mask and a self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) weighing up to 35 lbs, with conditions that may involve emergency rescue situations.
