Medical Lab Assistant II - Lab - Administration, Phlebotomy - Per Diem, Nights

Position Overview

We are seeking a candidate with hospital phlebotomy experience, preferably in a pediatric setting. Under the general supervision of the Laboratory Supervisor, the Medical Laboratory Assistant II is responsible for specimen collections on pediatric inpatients and outpatients, processing tests, preparing referral test analyses and shipping, handling patient registration and lab test order entry, and performing microbiology specimen processing and departmental instrument maintenance. Working behind the scenes, the MLA II helps to save lives every day! Salary: $26.51 to $36.89.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform specimen collections on pediatric inpatients and outpatients.
• Process tests, prepare referral test analyses, and handle shipping procedures.
• Manage patient registration and lab test order entry using hospital/departmental computer procedures.
• Process microbiology specimens and maintain departmental instruments.

Required Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma, G.E.D. or Equivalent
• Experience Required: One year of experience
• Phlebotomy certificate
• Love for science!

Preferred Qualifications

• Two years of experience
• BLS for Healthcare Providers (American Heart Association)
• Prior pediatric experience in phlebotomy, specimen accessioning and processing, patient registration, and lab test order entry in a clinical laboratory under a qualified Director
