Job Description

Position Overview

The Senior Solar Design Engineer role based in Miami, Florida offers a compensation of $95,000 to $120,000. We are seeking an experienced Senior Solar Design Engineering Manager to lead and oversee the engineering function for utility-scale and/or commercial solar energy projects. This role is responsible for managing engineering teams, driving technical excellence, and ensuring projects are delivered safely, on schedule, and in compliance with industry standards. Strong solar energy initial design experience is required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and manage a team of solar engineers across multiple projects
  • Oversee the engineering design of solar PV systems, including layout, electrical, structural, and civil components
  • Review and approve engineering drawings, calculations, and technical documentation
  • Collaborate with project management, construction, procurement, and business development teams
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal codes, regulations, and industry standards
  • Provide technical guidance during project development, permitting, construction, and commissioning phases
  • Identify and implement engineering best practices, process improvements, and cost efficiencies
  • Support site visits and field troubleshooting as needed
  • Travel up to 25% to project sites, meetings, and stakeholder engagements

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or related field required; Master’s preferred)
  • 8+ years of solar energy engineering experience, with at least 3+ years in a leadership or management role
  • Strong knowledge of solar PV system design, interconnection, and grid requirements
  • Proven experience managing engineering teams and large-scale solar projects
  • Familiarity with NEC, IEEE, UL, and relevant permitting and regulatory requirements
  • Proficiency with solar design and engineering software (e.g., AutoCAD, PVsyst, Helioscope, or similar)
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills
  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time
  • Able to work in the US without sponsorship

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license
  • Experience with utility-scale solar projects
  • Experience working cross-functionally with EPC or renewable energy organizations
