Job Description
Position Overview
This role in the Health Information Management section at the Southern Nevada Healthcare System VA Medical Center is responsible for analyzing, abstracting, and compiling health record information to ensure compliance with regulatory, clinical, and medical standards. The position supports accurate and timely patient recordkeeping and plays a crucial part in upholding documentation quality and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as a technical expert in health record content and documentation requirements.
- Perform quantitative and qualitative reviews to ensure accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of health records.
- Monitor and report on compliance with regulatory guidelines (e.g., The Joint Commission, CMS, VHA).
- Identify and track deficiencies in health records and assist clinicians in completing required documentation.
- Generate and analyze statistical reports to support quality management and regulatory compliance initiatives.
Required Qualifications
- Must be a U.S. Citizen and proficient in written and spoken English.
- Minimum of one year of creditable experience in health information management or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Sound knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and regulatory documentation requirements.
- Proficiency in utilizing health information technology systems and standard office software.
