Job Description

Position Overview

At Steen Engineering, engineering is more than just calculations – it's problem-solving with purpose. As a Mechanical Engineer Level 3 you will lead teams, collaborate closely with architects and contractors, and shape systems that make a lasting difference in the built environment. Reporting to the Mechanical Principal-in-Charge and based in Minneapolis, MN (Hybrid for local candidates and Remote for national), this role is ideal for a licensed or license-track engineer with 7-20 years of experience who is ready to own projects and foster strong client relationships. Anticipated Starting Salary: $90,000 - $140,000/yr

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead project design and execution from kickoff through construction administration.
  • Serve as the client’s trusted point of contact for project updates, problem-solving, and progress tracking.
  • Meet with owners, architects, and engineers to define project needs and system requirements.
  • Develop schematic design concepts and oversee detailed load calculations, system layouts, and specifications.
  • Review, mark up, and produce construction documents using Revit, AutoCAD, and Bluebeam.
  • Manage project scope, schedule, and resources while escalating potential overages as needed.
  • Lead peer review and QA processes to ensure adherence to The Steen Way standards.
  • Conduct site visits and field observations to verify systems implementation as designed.
  • Build and maintain client relationships that generate new business opportunities.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • 7-20 years of experience in mechanical or plumbing design, or project management.
  • Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, Office 365, and load software (e.g., Carrier HAP, Trane Trace).
  • Strong understanding of applicable codes, standards, and construction practices.
  • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to build trust with teammates, clients, and partners.
