Job Description

Position Overview

JOIN OUR TEAM! Spring Mountain Treatment Center is currently seeking a dynamic professional to join our team as a full-time Mental Health Tech (MHT). The Mental Health Tech (MHT) is the clinical staff member who interacts with patients daily, demonstrating strong communication and observation skills with the ability to accurately process and document information. In this role, you will provide structure and safety to the milieu environment as directed by hospital and unit procedures, manage patient behavior effectively, instruct, assist, and supervise patients in activities of daily living, and support nurses, teachers, activity therapists, and other departments in various activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for conducting safety checks and ensuring that supervision is conducted at 15-minute intervals, as noted in special precautions or in accordance with individualized supervision guidelines as needed.
  • Interact routinely with patients, observe behaviors, and communicate significant observations to nursing staff.
  • Demonstrate a sense of urgency related to the importance of patient safety and provide excellent customer service.
  • Document timely, accurate, and appropriate clinical information in the patient's medical record.
  • Ensure the well-being of patients while providing a positive, supportive, and structured environment.
  • Facilitate patient educational-rehabilitative groups covering topics such as social skills, coping skills, anger management, and independent living skills.
  • Oversee or assist patients with activities of daily living including toileting, bathing, dressing, grooming, oral hygiene, meals, snacks, hydration, and changing bed linens.
  • Obtain patients' vital signs, height, and weight as assigned and document accordingly.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or required by the position.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum High School diploma or equivalent required
  • One year of experience in a psychiatric setting or patient care preferred
  • Good communication skills – reading, writing, and speaking
  • Must be able to stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, and stand for long periods of time
  • Ability to follow both written and verbal instructions
  • Good leadership qualities including self-control, patience, and empathy
  • Obtain BLS Basic Life Support certification
  • New hires are required to attend one full week of New Employee Orientation on day shift (typically 8:00 am – 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday)
  • Must successfully pass background check (including criminal history, Child Abuse and Neglect Registry, and ABI/FBI fingerprint check)
