Job Description
Position Overview
Family Health Centers, established in 1976 as part of the national Community Health Center movement, is dedicated to providing high quality, affordable primary and preventive care to diverse communities including the working poor, the uninsured, and refugees. We are currently seeking Medical Assistants to join our supportive team in a fast‐paced environment. In this role, you will assist providers through a mix of administrative, clinical, and basic lab tasks.
Key Responsibilities
- Handles patient inquiries, schedules appointments, answers telephone calls, and communicates with providers.
- Receives, registers, and directs patients to the appropriate areas for examinations.
- Prepares medical charts for new patients by recording medical history, documenting chief complaints, and checking vital signs including height and weight.
- Assists providers with examinations and procedures.
- Performs various clinical tests, administers immunizations and injections.
- Documents patient information accurately in medical charts.
- Obtains specimens, performs basic lab tests, and prepares specimens for transport.
- Provides age-appropriate patient care based on developmental principles.
- Assists with patients’ needs as requested.
- Cleans and wraps instruments for sterilization, and stocks exam room supplies.
- Travels between satellite clinics as required.
- Adheres to standard safety and infection control precautions.
Required Qualifications
- High school graduation or its equivalent.
- Completion of a Medical Assistant Program.
- An equivalent combination of training and experience may be substituted as determined applicable by Civil Service.
