Job Description

Position Overview

The University of Michigan is hiring a Data Analyst, Health (0–3 years of experience) based in Ann Arbor, MI. This role, within the AAAHC‑accredited University Health Service, plays a vital part in mining, analyzing, visualizing, and reporting clinical, public health, financial, and operational data. The analyst will work collaboratively with clinicians, IT professionals, and public health experts to improve healthcare quality, safety, and outcomes in a dynamic, Hybrid working environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Data Management (60%): Pull, clean, and verify data from sources such as MiChart/HSDW; maintain reportable disease logs; create and update Tableau dashboards; perform basic statistical analysis; and reconcile multiple data sources.
  • Reporting & Communication (30%): Prepare reports and summaries for internal and external stakeholders using data from EMR systems (MiChart/Epic) and other health databases.
  • Partnership & Collaboration (10%): Work with UHS managers, public health professionals, and campus partners to define key performance indicators, adapt analytic workflows, and ensure data-driven decision making.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • At least 2 years of experience in a clinical, healthcare, data analytics, or STEM-related field involving data analysis, working with large data sets, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a related field (e.g., MPH, MS, MAS, MHA, MIS).
  • Knowledge of Epic/MiChart or ability to develop proficiency through training.
  • Experience using programming languages such as SQL and/or Python.
  • Advanced experience with Microsoft Office, OneDrive, SharePoint, and similar tools.
  • Familiarity with managing large data sets, data warehouses, and database linkages.
  • Ability to produce clear analytical summaries and effective data visualizations (Tableau, etc.).
  • Working knowledge of public health and epidemiologic concepts.
  • Experience with statistical analysis using tools such as SAS, SPSS, or R.
  • Familiarity with API integrations and online survey methodologies is a plus.
