Position Overview
Do you have a demonstrated ability to drive process improvement and lead change? Penske Logistics is seeking a proven leader with relevant experience and skills to join our team of logistics professionals. The Operations Supervisor provides direction at a single location, leading staff to ensure customer requirements are achieved while meeting Penske goals and objectives. In this role, Operations Supervisors will be bonus eligible based on their performance and location performance, with the potential to earn up to 12% of their base for Max Performance.
Schedule: Monday - Friday 6:00 AM - 4:30 PM (Hours may vary depending on business needs)
Location: US-TN-La Vergne
Key Responsibilities
- Establish and sustain that all supervisors and associates are trained and competent and understand how their work relates to the customers' business objectives.
- Establish and sustain that performance standards are communicated that are specific and measurable.
- Interview hourly associates and provide recommendations for hire.
- Monitor attendance, productivity, and other performance standards and provide coaching and counseling to associates.
- Motivate and engage associates by focusing on team accomplishments and recognition.
- Supervise logistics operations including customer service, freight loading and unloading, dispatch, and proper documentation and procedure control.
- Conduct team meetings and evaluate or recommend changes to preferred work methods to increase productivity.
- Assist in new associate training and provide relief coverage for operational duties when needed.
- Maintain a thorough working knowledge of the site's operating systems to ensure compliance and correct exception resolution.
- Complete all necessary records and reports in a timely and accurate fashion.
- Ensure compliance with financial policies and procedures (inventory accuracy, returns, damages, etc.) and understand the link between decision-making and profitability.
- Closely manage associates' working hours and activities to minimize overtime and meet productivity targets.
- Align daily management and associate activities with the location safety strategy, providing training, feedback, and direction for safe performance.
- Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory agencies and company policies, and conduct safety observations.
- Understand location-specific customer goals and work to consistently exceed expectations, demonstrating commitment to customer success.
- Identify areas for continuous improvement.
- Plan work assignments for effective use of warehouse equipment and ensure hourly associates operate equipment safely and efficiently.
- Collaborate with vendors to ensure proper equipment maintenance and perform other projects and tasks as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- 2 - 4 years related functional experience.
- Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Strong written and oral communication skills with an ability to actively listen.
- Advanced computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
- Demonstrated ownership and responsibility to run operations with a sense of urgency.
- Ability to connect and build rapport with associates and external customers at all levels.
- Strong time management and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage problems and make decisions independently.
- Ability to drive process improvement and lead change.
- Regular, predictable, full attendance is an essential function of the job.
- Willingness to travel as necessary, work the required schedule, and comply with background investigation and drug screening requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
- Experience with inventory management systems is a plus.
