Job Description

Position Overview

The Telecommunications Technician position for the Department of Public Safety (whose mission is to protect human life and property) is located statewide, AZ. Applicants will join a team that installs and maintains various types of electronic communications systems. Salary: $65,720.30 - $87,985.04 Annually. Key Responsibilities

  • Install and maintain various electronic communications systems including VHF/UHF mobile systems, microwave point-to-point systems, and technical investigative equipment.
  • Perform system-level troubleshooting and repair on two-way or multi-channel radio equipment.
  • Travel statewide, including climbing communications towers while carrying necessary equipment and tools, and work irregular hours under hazardous conditions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Possess a high school diploma or equivalent plus completion of a formal electronics technology program from a recognized institution.
  • Have two (2) years of paid work experience performing system-level troubleshooting and repair on radio equipment, OR successfully complete the Telecommunications Technician Trainee probationary period.
  • Hold a valid Arizona driver license effective on the starting date.
  • Obtain technical certification (e.g., FCC General Radiophonic Operator's License, PCIA/APCO Technician Certificate, or CET Journeyman Certificate with a Communications endorsement) OR secure the FCC General Class License/APCO Technician Certificate within six (6) months of hire.
  • Successfully complete the examination process, including a polygraph, background investigation, and, if required, the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify) for State business.
