What You Will Do

JOB SUMMARY

As a strategic legal leader, you will play a critical role in advancing the company's growth and transformation agenda in a highly regulated industry. This role will provide strategic legal counsel and day-to-day support to key business units including Supply Chain, Operations, Procurement, Tax, Finance, and Trade/Customs/Excise. The ideal candidate will have deep experience in commercial transactions, regulatory compliance, and cross-border legal issues, and will serve as a trusted advisor to internal stakeholders across the enterprise.

  • You will serve as a trusted advisor to senior leadership, shaping legal strategy that protects the company's interests while unlocking new pathways for growth.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Provide legal advice and support on a wide range of commercial matters, including supply agreements, vendor contracts, logistics arrangements, and procurement initiatives.
  • Advise on legal issues related to domestic and international trade, tariff, customs, excise taxes, and import/export compliance.
  • Support Finance and Tax teams on legal aspects of financial transactions, tax structuring, and regulatory disclosures.
  • Partner with Operations and Supply Chain teams to proactively identify and mitigate legal risks in manufacturing, distribution, and sourcing activities.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate complex commercial agreements and ensure alignment with company policies and risk tolerance.
  • Monitor and interpret relevant laws, regulations, and enforcement trends affecting the company's operations, including customs, excise, and trade compliance.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams on strategic initiatives, including cost optimization, ESG/sustainability efforts, and risk management.
  • Manage outside counsel relationships as needed for specialized matters or jurisdictional support.
  • Develop and deliver training to business partners on legal and compliance topics relevant to their functions.

Qualifications

REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
  • Minimum of 8 years of legal experience, preferably with a mix of law firm and in-house counsel roles.
  • Strong background in commercial law, supply chain, procurement, finance, and trade/customs matters.
  • Experience in a regulated industry (e.g., consumer goods, manufacturing, tobacco, or pharmaceuticals).
  • Must be 21 years of age or older.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong strategic thinking and business acumen.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to manage complex legal issues and influence cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Microsoft Teams.

Work Environment and Physical Demand

  • Ability to travel.
  • Requires light physical effort. Occasionally lifts or moves light objects (under 10 lbs.).
  • Walks, sits, or stands for prolonged periods.
  • Requires prolonged machine operation including computer and keyboard equipment as well as use of manual dexterity and fine motor skills.
