Job Description

Position Overview

Under general supervision of the Patient Access Manager or Supervisor, this role is responsible for ensuring all necessary clinical, demographic, and financial information is accurately gathered and processed to financially clear hospital procedures or stays. The incumbent demonstrates expertise as a PAS 2 and works closely with nurses, medical staff, ancillary departments, insurance carriers, and other professionals to support claim processing, reimbursement, and overall patient financial services in accordance with the mission, vision, and values of Tampa General Hospital.

Key Responsibilities

  • Follow established policies and procedures to financially clear hospital procedures or stays.
  • Gather and record all necessary demographic, clinical, and financial information for accurate insurance verifications, notifications, authorizations, and pre-certifications.
  • Demonstrate expertise with all proficiencies of a PAS 2, ensuring efficient claim processing and reimbursement.
  • Calculate, communicate, and collect patient financial responsibilities based on their health plan(s) prior to the scheduled date of service.
  • Ensure compliance with all requirements including CMS, JCAHO, and HIPAA when validating hospital accounts.
  • Collaborate with various internal and external departments to assist patients in obtaining health care and financial services.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • Approved medical terminology certification or successful completion of a medical terminology course with satisfactory scores within 6 months of hire.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience as a PAS 2 or equivalent in scheduling, registration, or insurance verification in a healthcare setting.
  • Moderate expertise with computer programs including Microsoft Office and database programs.
