Job Description

Position Overview

This position is responsible for planning, designing, and managing cost‐efficient civil engineering projects within the water sector. The role involves reviewing construction plans, coordinating field activities, providing technical support, and ensuring that water services and facility maintenance projects are executed effectively.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and manage cost-efficient civil engineering projects through coordination, drawings, specifications, and oversight.
  • Review construction plans (e.g., plot, subdivision, mechanical site) to ensure system feasibility and recommend water service solutions.
  • Coordinate Engineering Aides in surveying and utility location for the Kansas One Call Dig Check Program.
  • Develop budgeted, well-coordinated construction plans for utility crews and contractors.
  • Ensure adequate water service to customers through effective planning or improved system alterations.
  • Provide technical support to other divisions for maintenance, remodeling, or facility upgrades.
  • Oversee facility maintenance projects and guide custodial staff.
  • Assist leadership in daily operations and departmental goals with professional support.
  • Complete design work using standard engineering practices under supervisory review.
  • Denote and execute the essential functions of the position.

Required Qualifications

  • Advanced background in drafting standards, surveying, construction, and strong numerical ability.
  • Strong knowledge of mapping records, engineering drawings, and the design and construction of Water Distribution Systems.
  • Field experience in the water industry or related technical and engineering fields with high-level communication skills.
  • Proficiency in computer operation, experience with computer-aided drafting/design (CADD) software, and familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, solve problems effectively, and work collaboratively under pressure.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate degree with an emphasis on math and science and a minimum of six years of related experience.
  • Knowledge of basic mathematics principles, engineering design methods, hydraulic and hydrologic calculations, and land surveying techniques.
  • Familiarity with standard drawings, specifications, subdivision regulations, zoning, erosion prevention and sediment control (EPSC), and local environmental regulations.
