Position Overview
The University of Nevada, Las Vegas invites applications for Mechanical Engineer, Facilities Management [R0148668]. In this role, the Mechanical Engineer acts as the steward of Building Automation, HVAC, Plumbing, and Energy systems across the UNLV campus. The position requires developing innovative designs and maintenance plans while overseeing HVAC and Building Automation System shops. The successful candidate will manage multiple projects independently and in collaboration with engineers, architects, contractors, and other stakeholders. Work hours are Monday through Friday from 8am to 5pm with occasional extended hours and availability for 24/7 emergency consultation.
Compensation
Salary range is $92,000 to $110,000 or commensurate with the labor market.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary source of Mechanical Engineering Design & Analysis for the campus.
- Direct and supervise HVAC and Building Automation staff in planning, maintenance, and problem solving.
- Collaborate with faculty and facilities management to conceptualize and design systems that meet unique requirements.
- Provide solutions for environmental sustainability by conserving energy and water without compromising functionality.
- Recommend improvement activities and engage in joint design optimization initiatives.
- Review campus mechanical systems to ensure safety, quality, and functionality.
- Evaluate equipment performance, reliability, and safety across campus systems.
- Alter and modify designs as needed to meet requirements and eliminate malfunctions.
- Ensure compliance with codes and standards while guiding projects from inception to completion.
- Specify and procure commercial mechanical materials, parts, and assemblies.
- Develop and manage engineering projects including timelines, budgets, and deliverables.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Energy Engineering, or equivalent from an accredited institution.
- Minimum of three years’ experience in a similar or more advanced role.
- Working knowledge of HVAC, Building Automation, codes, and regulations.
- Required credentials must be obtained prior to the start date.
Preferred Qualifications
- LEED AP certification.
- Professional Engineer designation.
- University experience is preferred.
