Job Description
Position Overview
HDR is seeking a qualified Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our national Power Generation team. In this role, you will lead mechanical engineering initiatives for natural gas and renewable projects, ensuring design excellence, effective coordination, and technical compliance for utility, IPP, industrial, and institutional sectors.
Primary Location: United States – Michigan, Ann Arbor. Multiple other locations are available.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the project mechanical team and coordinate with other engineering disciplines.
- Provide technical support for detailed design, including development of construction drawings, equipment sizing calculations, and bid specifications.
- Prepare technical memos, feasibility studies, cost estimates, and conduct code reviews.
- Serve as Engineer of Record or Owner’s Engineer, ensuring project compliance with both technical and contractual requirements.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to monitor project status, manage schedules, and adhere to budgets.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
- A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in the power generation sector.
- Professional Engineers (PE or P.Eng) license.
- Extensive experience in project execution within the Power Market Sector.
- Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office and industry-standard design software.
- Commitment to active participation in an employee-owned culture.
Preferred Qualifications
- BS degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited university.
- Minimum 15 years of experience in power generation design.
- Experience with gas turbines, steam turbines, and large reciprocating engines.
- Design experience with simple cycle, combined cycle, distributed generation, and RICE projects.
- Experience with engineering power consulting or EPC firms.
- Ability to handle multiple concurrent assignments with excellent communication and analytical skills.
- Willingness to mentor less experienced engineers and EITs.
- Ability to work within established schedules and budgets.
- Willingness to travel less than 10% for client meetings and site visits.
