Job Description
Network Defense and Security Specialist
Position Overview
Enhance the security posture of USAF networks by providing expert analysis and support to the Network Operations Security Center (NOSC) at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and analyze real-time network activity, track trends of authorized and unauthorized behavior, and correlate unusual and suspicious activity across USAFCNET/USCENTCOM networks.
- Conduct intrusion packet level analysis using specialized tools and activities related to mission execution, ensuring optimal performance of network defenses.
- Handle cyber incidents through reporting, notification, documentation, and coordination; detection of events; preliminary analysis and identification; response actions; incident analysis; response and recovery; and post incident analysis according to applicable policy and directives.
- Maintain IDS/IPS devices for peak efficiency, including installation, configuration, maintenance, and management of sensors; assist in developing and documenting sensor processes and checklists; and provide technical advice to resolve network issues.
- Perform advanced traffic analysis, vulnerability assessment, IDS/IPS sensor maintenance, database and VPN technical support, network defense training, and Standardization & Evaluation activities; process operational data and provide systems planning support, as well as prepare technical reports on network defense.
- Present findings through written briefs, presentations, and professional reports to government leaders and decision-makers.
