Position Overview
Join the Facilities Services team at The University of Texas at Austin as an Instrumentation & Controls Technician I. In this role, you will perform journey level preventative maintenance, inspections, diagnostic testing, and repairs on mechanical and electrical systems in campus facilities. You will troubleshoot HVAC systems, calibrate controls, interpret technical drawings, and manage documentation to ensure operational excellence – all while contributing to a respected institution. Compensation: $51,975 + depending on qualifications.
Key Responsibilities
- Respond to heating and cooling trouble calls and troubleshoot electronic and pneumatic controls to maintain HVAC comfort control.
- Perform preventive maintenance, calibrate sensors, and enhance system performance for optimal energy conservation.
- Renovate, upgrade, and commission control systems for new construction and renovation projects.
- Interpret drawings, specifications, and sketches to ensure university standards are met while maintaining accurate records.
- Provide timely and courteous customer service, including participating in the on-call program and driving University vehicles to job sites.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Three years of journey-level experience with the installation, repair, maintenance, and operation of pneumatic and DDC instrumentation and control systems.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate’s degree in a technical field.
- ISA CCST Level 1 certification and more than three years of journey-level experience.
- Experience in a university setting and a demonstrated ability to work well within a team environment.
