Job Description

Position Overview

Join our Project Delivery Group at Hatch—a company with over 65 years of expertise in mining, energy, and infrastructure—where you’ll help deliver sustainable, innovative engineering solutions. As a Junior Mechanical Designer, you will produce mechanical and piping layouts, models, and detailed drawings under the guidance of the Lead Mechanical Designer, playing a key role in projects that drive positive change.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform the design and drafting of mechanical and piping plant models using applicable standards, project technical specifications, and established procedures.
  • Develop 3D models in an integrated CAD environment.
  • Prepare General Arrangement drawings, 2D detailed drawings (including chutes, ducts, equipment, and other mechanical components), and piping isometric drawings from the 3D model as required.
  • Prepare and update project deliverables including Process Flow Diagrams (PFD), Piping & Instrumentation Drawings (P&ID), and other key documentation.
  • Provide material quantity take-offs for estimating purposes and support bulk commodity purchase planning.
  • Assist with detailed design tasks, drawing preparations from specifications, coordination with technicians/engineers, and support to senior engineers as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • Recent or soon-to-be graduate with an Associate Degree in Computer Aided Design (with a specialization in mechanical and piping systems), Mechanical Engineering Technology, or an equivalent accredited qualification.
  • Note: Candidates with a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree should apply for the Mechanical/Piping Engineer role (Requisition #: 95834).
  • Proficient in the use of CAD systems.
  • Ability to learn quickly and take on new challenges.
  • Collaborative team player with excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and keen attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrates critical and creative thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • Highly motivated with a positive attitude and the ability to embrace innovation and change.
