Job Description

Position Overview

The Electric Asset Management (EAM) Distribution Planning (DP) team ensures safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the electric distribution system by providing timely and innovative engineering and technical support in planning, design, construction, and maintenance. As a part of the EAM System Planning and Reliability group, this entry-level role is represented by Engineers and Scientists of California (ESC) under a collective bargaining agreement. PG&E provides a salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position, which is specific to the job locality. The Compensation for this role has an annual salary range of: Minimum, $95,172; Maximum, $142,956.

Key Responsibilities

  • Submits long-term and short-term reconstruction, capacity, and reliability plan recommendations; manages projects within their local area of $100,000 or less; and reviews and recommends job estimates within DPA for capacity and reliability.
  • Monitors area substation and circuit capabilities and tracks corresponding loads. Prepares proposals, including justification, for corrective actions to address deficiencies.
  • Performs planning studies to accurately model the electric distribution system, collaborates with Mapping to correct record discrepancies, and analyzes historical loads to project future growth.
  • Prepares draft Preliminary Planning Reviews (PPR's) and identifies alternatives to address deficiencies for Project Analysis (PA's), ensuring power factor and primary voltage remain within established standards.
  • Determines circuit and equipment capabilities within the assigned DPA and prepares switching plans to alleviate normal and emergency deficiencies, including necessary documentation for estimating job packages.
  • Configures settings for load tap changers, distribution protective devices, and Distribution Automation (DA) devices while reviewing requests for new or increased customer loads.
  • Provides direction on primary designs and conducts circuit protection reviews, making recommendations for necessary corrections related to protective schemes.
  • Initiates service dependability solutions, participates in local reliability/root cause meetings, and supports outage prevention, CPUC complaint responses, and emergency restoration efforts.
  • Addresses customer voltage and EMF complaints as needed, supports estimating and construction departments, and reviews switching arrangements and equipment settings for optimized system operation.
  • Prepares EASOP (economic analysis) for projects in DPA and provides on-call support while maintaining equipment records.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited college/university.
