Job Description

Position Overview

WSP is currently initiating a search for an Entry Level Civil Engineer (Renewables) to join our Power & Energy projects within our Site Development Civil Team. This role is based in Cincinnati, OH with opportunities in Cleveland, OH, Columbus, OH, Indianapolis, IN, Houston, TX, Dallas, TX, Austin, TX, and Las Vegas, NV. Key Responsibilities

  • Support renewable energy site development projects with emphasis on Solar, Wind, and BESS facilities, including behind the meter generation for commercial and industrial clients.
  • Develop methods for collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from physical work sites, surveys, blueprints, GIS data, subsurface utility information, maps, hydrologic analyses, geotechnical data, and other matrices for project development, design, and construction.
  • Perform professional civil engineering work including research and inspections of proposed and existing site conditions, resources, buildings, infrastructure, and transportation channels to ensure conformance with applicable rules, standards, and permits.
  • Assist in developing sites and permitting plans for various energy sector projects including electrical transmission, solar, and onshore wind projects.
  • Support the creation of civil designs, including erosion and sediment control, drainage/stormwater, and utility designs.
  • Prepare permit application documents, engineering design plans, specifications, reports, and cost estimates.
  • Conduct field visits to local sites with the potential for occasional overnight travel.
  • Coordinate with clients and governmental agencies to secure necessary permits or approvals.
  • Contribute to the scoping and development of medium-sized projects along with providing guidance and training to entry-level engineers.
  • Collaborate with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and clients in a professional manner.
  • Maintain current knowledge of the latest civil engineering techniques and practices.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company resources and conduct in adherence to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
  • 1+ years of relevant post-education experience in renewable energy engineering and prior civil design experience.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with proven teamwork abilities, along with strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven task management skills.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD is required.
  • Working knowledge of site grading, stormwater, and erosion and sedimentation controls.
  • Understanding of stormwater permitting (NPDES) with multi-state knowledge considered a plus.
  • Familiarity with relevant civil construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
  • Ability to perform technical computations and calculations in applying engineering principles, understanding plans and specifications, and comparing them to regulations.
  • Efficient interpersonal skills for effective communication with team members and stakeholders.
